We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be running a series of 10 individual time trials this season as our 2023 Grand Prix Time Trial Series. Thursday evenings through the summer starting 4th May through a range of courses from 1 mile sprint to 15m and hill climb, concluding in September.

This year we are introducing a road bike category, alongside our existing open and e-bike categories, and the usual male, female and junior guises. This, like a similar change in open time trial events, is aimed at levelling the playing field and giving everyone something to race for.

TTs are a brilliant way of scratching that competitive itch. It’s you against the clock and your PB time, before looking towards the leaderboard. We run a friendly series of events every bit open to first-timers as old timers, and road bikes, as the odd pointy hat and disc wheel!

We'd love to encourage new folks to come and have a go, riding, try being a timekeeper, waving a flag and shouting encouragement, or any of the other roles that we regularly have. If you've any questions don't hesitate in getting in touch.

Alongside the regular league, we'll again be running a handicap competition. The winner of which will be awarded the “Craig Johnston Trophy” in fond memory of our late, larger than life member and friend. This sub-competition will be awarded to the member with the best performances over 3 out of 4 10 mile events. It will be an open competition, and a road bike competition. Those events a handicap result will be calculated based on the VTTA Standard – which grades performances normalising age and gender. There’s a full example in the rules.

The full calendar of events is;

  • 4th May – Cleish 5m Milnathort 6.5m (due to roadworks)
  • 18th May – Cleish 5m
  • 25th May – Cleish 10m postponed (due to roadworks)
  • 8th June – Milnathort 10
  • 22nd June - Loch Leven (12.5m)
  • 6th July – Milnathort 15m postponed (due to weather)
  • 20th July – Cleish 10m (1) – rearranged from 25th May
  • 27th July – Cleish 10m (2)
  • 3rd August – Milnathort 15m - rearranged from 6th July
  • 10th August – Balado 10m
  • 24th August – Cleish Hill Climb
  • 14th September – Balado 1m Sprint

A riders’ best five performances from the ten events will determine their position on the overall league table, which will run as normal alongside the new handicap competition.

As usual we have categories for age groups, road bikes, ebikes and tandems. And with covid restrictions reducing we are happy to once again welcome second claim members and guests.

Signups are done on the club Spond app and invites go out around a week in advance. If you’re a guest, why not join and give it a go, but if you’d like to ride as a guest let the organiser know via a member, or the membership secretary.

See you on the 4th. Beep, beep, beep, beeeep!
